ZX Games

I've just loaded Boulderdash onto my brand new laptop, using the disk, and it runs too slowly to be useful, even when I've set the speed option at 'fast'. Any ideas what's gone wrong?

What might be wrong:

• The laptop's video adapter isn't fast;
• Other applications are running and consuming resources.

Try the following:

• Restart the game;
• Restart the laptop making sure as few other applications are running as possible.

It can't be the video adapter not running fast enough as Treasure Pleasure runs fine.

Tried running it after a full reboot with no other applications running. Shows no improvement.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled the game. No improvement.

Have tried running it direct from the disk without loading it onto the machine. No improvement.

BTW runs fine on my old desktop machine that I've just replaced with the laptop, specs of which are detailed below.

It will always be a mystery to me why a casual game may run slow on a powerful machine :-)

Can you please try this hacker-style workaround?

1. Start > Run > regedit
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZX-Games
3. Pick an episode.
4. Change the Speed value from 3 (Fast) to, say, 5.
5. See if you enjoy the game more now.

Please note that, if you use this workaround, you can't change the speed in the game menu any more (if you do, it'll get back to a 'normal' value). Also, the game may run not so smoothly.
